Angelica Kauffmann was born in Switzerland in 1741. So early did she achieve a European reputation that when the Royal Academy was founded in 1768 she was invited to become a founding member even though she was only 27. Who invited her to join the Academy?

Answer: (d) Sir Joshua Reynolds, the first President of the Royal Academy. Apart from Angelica Kauffman, only one other female artist, Mary Moser, was invited to become a founding Academician.
