In praise of museums – Philip Wilkinson

At our AGM last Tuesday we welcomed Philip Wilkinson as our guest speaker. He spoke warmly about the love of buildings which he shares in his award-winning blog, English Buildings. It descibes his encounters with some of his favourite English buildings, including many that are little known and that get short shrift in the architectural history books; there are fascinating accounts of breweries, prefabs, power stations, corrugated-iron barns and the occasional parish church.

In his latest blog post, In Praise of Museums, he talks about the importance of museums and in particular about his memories of visiting Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum as a child. We were very privileged to have Philip as our speaker and would encourage you to make your acquaintance with his work, both in print and online, if you haven’t already done so.
