Day tour by coach: We will be visiting two significant buildings in the picturesque medieval market town Ledbury:  The Master’s House and the Anglican Church St Michael and All Angels.

The Master’s House is grade II* listed, and one of the remaining fragments of the medieval St Katherine’s hospital site, founded in 1232, one of the most important surviving medieval hospital sites in the country. Back in the year 1231, Bishop Hugh Foliot envisioned a sanctuary that not only cared for the physical needs but also nurtured the spirits of the poor, the aged, the sick, the distressed, and the weary travellers and pilgrims.

Day to day running of St Katherine’s Hospital was overseen by a Master, chosen initially from amongst the brethren of the hospital.   In the 15th century, the Master removed himself from the dormitory and hall to live in a newly completed timber-framed house, known today as The Master’s House.

After the private tour of the Master’s House everyone is free to explore any of the charming lunch spots nearby. We will reconvene at 2pm at The Anglican Church of St Michael and All Angels where we will be able to see the original School of Titian painting and receive a tour of the church. We will receive tea and biscuits before we depart at 4pm to return to Cheltenham.
