Harvington Hall, `House of Secrets`

We depart Cheltenham this morning to the Worcestershire countryside to visit this fascinating and special house, rich in history of devotion and Catholic persecution. There are no less than seven priest hides here (more than any other house in England), as well as an impressive collection of rare Elizabethan wall paintings and many more historical tales.  Our visit starts with refreshments in the main hall (limited seating available) while our knowledgeable guides give an introduction to the house.  After our tour and a visit to the gardens. we board the coach for the short journey to Spetchley Park Gardens.  Virtually hidden from the road, and largely unaltered during the last century, this lovely 30- acre Victorian paradise boasts an enviable collection of plant treasures from every corner of the globe, including one of the finest and largest private collections of peonies in the world. The peonies are at their best in May. This is a garden of contrasts, where formal clipped hedges, rose beds and sweeping lawns meet tumbling herbaceous borders and walls festooned with rampant climbers, and where winding paths lead you from the quintessentially English to the unmistakably Mediterranean.

There are cafes, picnic tables and toilets in both venues
