In search of the Earthly Paradise: the homes, interiors and gardens of The Followers of the Arts and Crafts Movement : Fiona James MA.
William Morris and the followers of the Arts and Crafts Movement aimed to model their way of life, their homes, interiors and gardens on a vision of a romanticised Mediaeval world in which they recreated rural communities of craftsmen and women living in harmony with nature.
Evidence of their influence and ideas can be found in towns and villages all over England but we are particularly fortunate to have examples of the Arts and Crafts way of life here in the South Cotswolds. In the talk we shall consider how the Arts and Crafts followers shaped their environment to create a paradise on earth in the Cotswolds.
Fiona studied Fine Art at Exeter and then later History of Art at University of London. She worked at the Wellcome Institute, London helping with cataloguing and display of the prints and drawings collection before becoming a teacher. Fiona was Head of History of Art at The Cheltenham Ladies’ College where she worked for 15 years. Her interests include Italian art and architecture, the Modern Movement in architecture and more recently the development of the Arts and Crafts Movement in South Cotswolds. Fiona is now retired from full time teaching but run courses for adults in Art History in Cheltenham and in Cirencester.
- Cost: £15 for buffet lunch and talk, £8.00 for talk only.

There are three payment options:
1. You can pay by credit or debit card, as well as by PayPal, using the PayPal option (default). If there are sufficient spaces still available this will automatically confirm your booking if the payment is accepted.
2. If you want to pay by cheque select the Off-line option from the payment methods but please send your cheque as soon as possible as your booking will not be confirmed until we have received the payment.
3. If you really don’t like filling in forms on-screen you can download a form, print it and post it with a cheque. A booking form can also be found in the Friends Newsletter (available January 2018).
