Cliveden House Hotel is a stunning Italianate mansion set high above the River Thames in Berkshire. For more than 300 years Cliveden was home to dukes, earls, viscounts and, for a while, a prince. A glittering hub of society, Cliveden hosted exclusive parties and political gatherings, later becoming infamously associated with the Profumo affair.

We have arranged coffee on arrival before we have a special guided tour of some of the ground floor rooms of Cliveden. Our pre-ordered soup and sandwich lunch will be served in the orangery at 12.00.

After lunch we’ll have time for a look around the gardens which capture the grandeur of a bygone age. The famous gardens have been visited by virtually every British Monarch since George I. Many well-known designers, including John Fleming, Norah Lindsay and most recently Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe have helped shape them.

At 14:30, we depart for Cookham arriving about 14:45. In Cookham we will split into two groups. The first group will have a short guided walk around the village where Sir Stanley Spencer lived for most of his life, whilst the second group will have a guided tour of the Stanley Spencer Exhibition. The groups will swap over after about 45 minutes. We’ll leave at approximately 17:00.

COST PER PERSON: £41.00 for National Trust members (please bring your National Trust membership card or full admission will be payable); £53.00 for non-National Trust members. Includes coffee on arrival and light lunch.

Pick- up points: Racecourse Park and Ride: 07:45, Royal Well Coach Station: 08:00, Sixways: 08:15. Our coach will return at approximately 18:45.
